Handicap Director's Message:

My name is Todd Kauppinen and I am 39 years old.  I have lived in the Marquette County area for 35 of them.  I was born with Cerebral Palsy.  I am happily married to my beautiful wife Heidi for almost 10 years and we have one son, Ty, who is 4 and a half.  My hobbies are watching sports, collecting music CD's and the occasional Star Wars figure.  I also try to see a rock concert or two every year.  I will be attending Ted's show in Manistique on July 30th hope to see you all there.

I am passionate about everything whitetail.  I hunt all three seasons bow, riffle and muzzleloader so I don't do much else, a little fishing maybe.

I am also passionate about bike riding. I have a 3 wheel recumbent bike that I try to put 40 to 75 miles a week on, it keeps me in shape for deer season.  Well that's enough about me.  I would like to tell you some of the things I hope to accomplish by accepting this position.

First and foremost to make a difference no matter how big or small, is key.  I feel like if I am going to use the resources we have, I have a responsibility to make sure I do something to ensure others have them in the future.

I am currently starting to compile a list of all the game ranches in the Upper Peninsula so I can see what they have available for handicapped hunters.  So if anyone out there has info they would like to share I would appreciate it.  I am also working with some friends to try to secure a hunt or hunts on private property that is wheelchair accessible so I will do my bets to keep everyone informed.

Sincerely,

Todd Kauppinen

Brad Bloweres lost his arm in an auto accident and his father reached out for some help. Craig Frank put him in touch with Pat Treloar from Oaktree Wildlife Products and Pat contacted me. We put them in contact with Buckmasters and Horton Crossbows. Horton does a crossbow Giveaway every year for the disabled and Brad was selected. How cool is that? The power of people coming together to give a young man an opportunity to get back in the woods, The story gets better. Bruce Freshcorn then donates to the Oaktree Wildlife company and Oaktree Sponsors Brad on the disabled hunt at Sunrize.
I had an opportunity to meet them on the hunt and they are great people and they are working towards great things.  Brad is pictured with his four horned ram. Awesome!
